CSFF’s Reminder for Short Film Submission and CFIs 1.0 and 2.0!

PHNOM PENH, July 28, 2024 — CSFF’s Reminder for Short Film Submission and CFIs 1.0 and 2.0!

Since last June, Chaktomuk Short Film Festival (CSFF) has extended its call for submission to short filmmakers till the 31st of July, 2024, upon our filmmakers’ requests. Meanwhile, another CFI (Chaktomuk Film Insight) was conducted on July 07th, to enhance the filmmaking skills of our interested candidates.

CFI 2.0 was conducted in an intense, physical format, at Factory Phnom Penh, in focus on “screenplay writing” and “directing”, featuring two distinguished filmmakers who remarkably experienced CSFF:

Mr. VONG Panhavon, a Finalist of CSFF 2018 and Mr. David TITO, CSFF 2021 Champion.

“Besides the experience of organizing CFI, I have learned useful lessons from our speakers. For instance, great storylines should be simple and easy to understand, based on our resources available. If I make it complex, the audience might get bored and the story would be difficult to make into a short film,” expressed Ms. SORN Sokkheang, CSFF’s Supervisor of Event Department, in charge of CFI 2.0. “Following the examples our speakers shared with us, whatever story we make should take into our film market, social trends, and orientation. This way, the audience would not leave the screening, complaining about wasting their money”, she added.

Mr. VONG Panhavon, one of CFI 2.0’s speakers stated: “CFI 2.0 marked the debut for aspiring filmmakers. Most of our participants wish to make feature films. Still, I think they should start with short films, as a chance for them to turn their stories into short films on the white screen”. He went on, “A key lesson I’ve learned from my mentor and applied till now is that an efficient short film should be based on very few characters and locations. This will make it easier for the filmmaker to debut their film career, instead of landing on a story with too many scenes or characters.”

“As I have not never been involved in producing a short film, CFI helped me understand better the practical experiences shared by both speakers. Plus, I had the chance to ask them in person about whatever aspect of making a short film, I was blurred on, before I start my shoot,” articulated Ms. NONG May Chakreya, a journalist aspiring to write a short film, among the selected dozen participants in CFI 2.0

Speed up your production, as CSFF will officially close the deadline within less than two weeks, with no further delay!
